Service FAQs
Our Approach to Insurance
At Life of Wellness Counseling, we currently accept certain insurance plans and will continue to do so for the time being. However, we are gradually moving away from relying on insurance for several important reasons.
When working with insurance, we are required to:
- Assign a mental health diagnosis, even if you’re simply seeking support during a life transition.
- Share details of your treatment with your insurance company, meaning your records are not fully private.
- Follow treatment limitations set by insurance, which may not align with the care that best fits your needs.
It’s also important to understand that having a mental health diagnosis on record can sometimes affect future applications for things like life insurance, health insurance, or certain types of employment.
By moving toward more private-pay options, we can:
- Protect your confidentiality—your records stay between you and your therapist.
- Focus fully on your goals, without restrictions set by insurance companies.
- Offer more flexibility in session length, frequency, and treatment approaches.
For now, if your insurance is one we accept, you are welcome to use it. If you’re interested in opting out of insurance and paying privately, please let your LCSW know—we’ll be glad to discuss private-pay options and costs with you.
Our goal is to give you the freedom to choose the path that best supports your healing.
Do you accept insurance?
We currently accept:
- Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
- United Healthcare / Optum
- Aetna
- Cigna
- Straight Medicare
Are you planning to stop taking insurance?
For now, we still accept the plans listed above. However, we are gradually moving toward a private-pay model so that we can better protect your privacy, avoid unnecessary restrictions, and focus on your unique goals rather than insurance requirements.
Why would I choose not to use my insurance if you accept it?
When using insurance, a formal mental health diagnosis is required and becomes part of your permanent medical record. Insurance companies may also review your records and limit the number or length of sessions. In some cases, having a diagnosis on file can affect future life insurance or health insurance applications. Choosing private pay means your records remain confidential between you and your therapist, and your care can be tailored without outside restrictions.
Do you provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?
Yes. If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, we can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Can I talk to someone about private-pay costs?
Absolutely. If you’re interested in opting out of insurance, please let your LCSW know. We’ll be happy to discuss session fees, packages, or other private-pay options.
Do you offer EMDR therapy?
Yes, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
What approach do you use for couples counseling?
Do you have experience working with veterans?
Yes, I have experience providing trauma-informed counseling for veterans, addressing issues such as PTSD, adjustment challenges, and related concerns.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients?
Yes, I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who identify as LGBTQ+, offering affirming and inclusive support.
